Mauricio began as a flamenco singer at the Teatro Degollado de Guadalajara in 1996. From there, he sang with many flamenco schools, accompanying dance classes and performances while training in guitar. His professional debut as a guitarrist was with the flamenco singer Juan Morales with whom he performed for 2 years. In 2003, he studied with Spanish flamenco singer Leo Triviño and Spanish guitarist Hector de la Vega. At the same time, he performed withthe dancer José Mayan along with Hector de la Vega and Leo Triviño. In 2004, he worked with dancer José Maria Amaya as a guitarrist and singer in performances throughout the city of Guadalajara.

In the summer of 2003, Mauricio worked with Daneil Pimentel to compose and record the CD "La Primer Gota de Lluvia" ("The First Drop of Rain"). On the CD, Mauricio sings and plays both the guitar and box drum, as well as serving as producer. In 2005, Mauricio traveled to Spain to broaden his technique and understanding of flamenco music at the famed school "Amor de Dios" in Madrid. There he studied and played with Cristóbal Reyes, Cristian Almodóvar, Olga Maria Marcioni "La China" and Maria Juncal. While in Madrid, he was invited to play guitar on composer Mallorquín David Ordinas's disc "Anima Negra". He also participated in the show, "Tablao los Jacintos" playing a duet with Antonio Sánchez, nephew of famed guitarist Paco de Lucia.

In May of 2006, Mauricio returned to Mexico to play in the "México en Escena" program, playing guitar in a performance of the opera Carmen with the Mazatlán symphony orchestra under the direction of Enrique Patrón de Rueda. In 2007, Mauricio returned to his beginnings as a flamenco singer, performing on the CD of Cuban composer Josue Tacoronte. He also performed in a series of shows with the flamenco company PROART in Queretaro, Oaxaca, Puebla and Mexico City at Teatro de la Danza.

Mauricio continued singing and playing guitar with PROART, including playing at the first Contemporary Iberian Festival in Queretaro. He worked with Josue Tacoronte once again at a concert with Spanish guitarist José Antonio Rodriguez while serving as in-house guitarist for classes at PROART with Olga Maria Marcioni, José Antonio Rodriguez and Antonio Rey.
